"The exact moment I got into cosplaying, I had wanted to do a Black Rock Shooter cosplay! 3-4 years into cosplaying, I felt it was the right time to conquer this beast and fulfill my first cosplaying dream!"

"This coplay seemed pretty simple on paper: a bikini, a long black cloak, and boots. Only tought part was the eye piece and the gun. But surprisingly, the entire outfit was difficult and it required me using a lot of fabric glue (E6000) in times when I couldn't sew. Let's start issue by issue, the top: Black Rock is supposed to be flat chested but I felt very uncomfortable walking around with just a flimsy bikini top on :/ so I had to adjust the bikini top to fit around a bra. This worked out well though, because I was able to incoporate the black cloak material into the bikini material (and pull it all together) but it did take quite a bit of brainstorming. Next the cloak: the pattern was simple, although it was online and therefore the measurements were off a bit. The bagginess of the sleeves was essential but sadly I have incredibly tiny wrists, so this was my first time using fabric glue instead of sewing the wristcuffs to the sleeve. I learned by trial and error that it's very hard to sew something ON to pleather, so again, fabric glue came in handy with the silver stripe along the back of the cloak. After buying a ton of different sized iron-on star patches, I finally had the epiphany to spray paint the silver star on the back of the cloak! But...some of that leaked out beyond the stencil and I once again had to glue a silver ribbon around it to make it look cohesive :/ Again, simple on paper but no so much in practice."

"My two favorite parts of this cosplay are what made me stand out from other Black Rocks: the light eye piece and the lifesize gun. Luckily, I'm surrounded by amazing people that really helped me out with these pieces. The eye piece was made mostly by Kyle (my other half) and had quite a few mock trials before we perfected it. He really enjoyed getting to work with thermoplastic and create the flame effect with reflections of LED through plastic! To connect it to my face we used invisible string and attached it like a eye patch; I loved that at the conventions people couldn't tell how it was attached to my face!"
"The gun was the icing on the cake, I've never been so excited for a cosplay than I was for this gun! (By the way, this was the first time I had a cosplay that relied heavily on a prop and somehow that made me ridiculously nervous when leaving the hotel room!) My close, personal friend Andrew Data made the gun for me using craft foam, a 3D printer, wood and chains. It got down to the wire when his 3D printer broke and the handle had to be made of wood (therefore making it VERY heavy), but it's not cosplay if you're not dying on the inside XD That gun gave me some hefty bruises, but more importantly made some killer photos and helped me truly become Black Rock Shooter <3"
